Margot Robbie: “I Never Get Tired of Harley Quinn” – And Colin Farrell Has a Surprising Response

In Kogonada’s romantic fantasy A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell deliver a chemistry that feels both electric and effortless. Their on-screen connection isn’t just a product of the script but something that came alive the moment they stepped into character.

“I suspected we’d have chemistry, but you never know until you’re actually acting,” Robbie shared during the film’s press tour at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills. “And yes, I had a feeling it would work.”

The movie follows Sarah (Robbie) and David (Farrell), two strangers who cross paths at a mysterious car rental agency. Guided by a talking GPS, they step through magical doorways that transport them back to their childhoods, forcing them to revisit pivotal memories that shaped who they are today.

Farrell couldn’t hide his admiration for his co-star: “I’ve heard extraordinary things about Margot for years, from people who worked with her both in front of and behind the camera. They told me she’s warm, fun, and just a joy to be around. Of course, everyone knows she’s a brilliant actress—that goes without saying. But the kindness, the humor, the humanity… all of that exceeded my expectations. Every day on set with her was a gift.”

Robbie admitted she had done her own “background check” on Farrell. “Some of my closest girlfriends work in crews, and two of them were ADs on Fantastic Beasts. They always told me, ‘Colin is the kindest, the best to work with.’ They couldn’t stop praising him.”

While Sarah and David relive painful childhood memories, Robbie insists the movie isn’t heavy or depressing. “Even though it touches on darker themes, the whole process felt light and magical. It’s romantic, it’s whimsical, and yet grounded in real emotions. Honestly, I dreaded the day it would end. That was the only downside.”

Farrell agreed: “It’s about grief, loss, loneliness—all very human things. But I never once thought of this film as dark. These experiences may be painful, but they’re not darkness.”

Beyond the film, Robbie’s name continues to spark conversation around her iconic DC role, Harley Quinn. Just last week, James Gunn hinted at the possibility of her return to the new DC universe, though nothing has been confirmed. Robbie herself said: “I’ve heard nothing.”

Farrell then teased her: “Do you ever get sick of Harley?”

“Never,” Robbie replied without hesitation. “You can’t get sick of Harley. I love her so deeply. I always imagined her like Batman—a character that will live on long after me.”

Robbie first took on the role in Suicide Squad (2016), reprising it in Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad. She says she’d love to see other actors step into Harley’s shoes as well: “I feel like I need to share her.”

With Farrell’s acclaimed performance as the Penguin in The Batman and the spin-off The Penguin series, fans couldn’t resist imagining a crossover. Robbie laughed: “You’d have to ask James Gunn!” Farrell joked, “How would that even work?” prompting Robbie to quip back: “Hot!” Farrell quickly disagreed: “That is not the word I’d use.” Robbie grinned and concluded: “It would definitely be a demented couple.”

Interestingly, Robbie revealed that Penguin was originally planned as a villain in Birds of Prey, but director Matt Reeves asked her to leave the character untouched since he wanted him for The Batman. Farrell has since made the role his own, and he’s set to reprise it in the upcoming sequel.

With A Big Bold Beautiful Journey hitting theaters on September 19, audiences are about to witness not only a moving story of love and self-discovery but also a rare pairing of two powerhouse talents. Robbie and Farrell have transformed this film into an unforgettable cinematic journey—poetic, healing, and utterly captivating.
